How to Use Smart Columns to Convert Any Currency into Any Number Column on Your monday.com Board

Seamlessly calculate currency values between columns—no formulas required.

If your workflow involves multiple currencies—such as international sales pipelines, global vendors, or finance reporting—manual currency conversion quickly becomes a bottleneck. Keeping rates up to date, avoiding calculation errors, and maintaining consistency across boards is difficult and error-prone.

Why It Matters

Manually converting currency slows teams down and introduces unnecessary risks. Automating the process with Smart Columns eliminates that friction. You can map “From” and “To” currencies once, and the column will dynamically calculate updated values.

Real-Life Use Cases

  • Finance teams: Automatically convert deal values from USD to local currency
  • Sales CRM: Record opportunities in both local and HQ currency
  • Procurement: Display vendor costs in preferred comparison format
  • Expense tracking: Convert international spending into reporting currency

What This Smart Column Does

The Currency Converter Smart Column automatically translates numeric values from a source currency to a destination currency. Using current exchange rates, it handles all the math—letting you focus on decisions, not calculations.

Step 2: Go to the Desired Board

Navigate to the board where you want to enable currency conversion.

Step 3: Add the Currency Converter

  • Click the three-dot menu on the desired column
  • Select Column Extensions
  • Choose Currency Converter

Step 4: Create Two Number Columns

Create two number columns to serve as:

  • “From”: The column that stores the original currency value
  • “To”: The column that will hold the converted amount

You can now configure the converter to pull from the “From” column, apply conversion, and update the “To” column accordingly.

Step 5: Set the Mirror Trigger

Choose when the conversion should run automatically:

  • Item is created – Applies conversion when a new item is added
  • Column is changed – Runs when the base value or currency is updated
  • Item is moved to any group – Triggers when item location changes
  • Status is changed to a specific value – Applies based on status condition (optional)

Step 6: Save Your Settings

After setting your preferences, click Save. Now, whenever values are added to the “From” column, they will be automatically converted and shown in the “To” column—error-free and always up to date.
