How to Setup Smart Columns?

Setup Text Column:

- Click on the text column to install it.

Access Column Extension:

- Go to the three-dot menu and click on "Column Extension."

Select Custom ID:

- Choose "Custom ID" from the options.

Set Prefix:

- Enter a prefix for your custom ID. For example, use "EMP" for employee records. You can choose any prefix as needed.

Choose Use Column:

- Select the column you want to use to generate the custom ID. For example, choose "Name" to generate IDs based on item names.

Minimum Digit:

- Configure the minimum length of the custom ID string.

Starting Number:

- Set the starting number for the custom ID. For example, choose 1 to start with 001 if the minimum value is set to 3.

Activate Custom ID:

- Choose when to activate the custom ID:

- Item created

- Item moved

- Column changed

Status changed

- Item name changed

Click "Save."
Refresh the page.

How is my data stored?

None of your account and board data is being stored outside of monday.com. We do not transfer or store it anywhere else. Auto-links store only the relationships between boards and columns so it will be able to link the data between boards.
